english text EAT WHAT YOU SEE The key
position of the Idroscalo was clear since the first
visit; its position in the landscape and more so its unique location away
from the land on stilts, in the river. Therefore we understood that the aim
of our project was to find a way of reusing the building through creating a
relationship between the landscape, people and the historic city of Pavia. Through
the analysis of the production system in the surrounding region, and keeping
reference to the Certosa of Pavia, where the monk
community studied and cultivated the lands it to generate a self sustainable
economy, we were able to make connections with both current and historical
activities connected to the Idroscalo. By
taking advantage of the EXPO to be held in Milan in 2015, with the combined
topics of “Feed the Planet” and “Use the Water”, we developed
the idea of connecting the Idroscalo with a network
of buildings and events spead throughout the cities
of Pavia and Milan, with the common theme of more sustainable and healthy
eating. We suggest to revitalise the riverside, adding a few platforms along
the banks on which people can freely explore the landscape of the river and
begin to make a connection with the wider surroundings. By taking this
approach we would improve the use and context of the building, changing it
from an isolated area into a desirable centre of food in the city. The Idroscalo would thus become a multifunctional space where
people can go to discover the taste of the food produced in the nearby
regions, such as rice and wines. It would be possible to buy these products
in the shop arranged in the ground floor and at the same time cook in the
individual kitchens placed at the same level. The first floor will serve as a
restaurant, in which people can enjoy the local food cooked for them. With
regards to the architectural approach, we want to celebrate the form of the
original building through expressing both the internal and external. We would
fix the structure, maintaining both the frame and the surfaces and add inside
a simple steel volume. So doing we would recreate double the floor space of
the existing building, expressing through careful playfulness of voids and
glass boxes the connection that the Idroscalo
currently has with its landscape. In order to allow the people to fully
experience the view and become part of the landscape we will build 6
platforms following the existing angle of the ramp, organized in different
levels culminating with a balcony protruding from the glass facade. |

CIO’ CHE VEDI Visitando
l'area oggetto di intervento, è immediato comprendere la posizione strategica
che questa ricopre nel paesaggio, trovandosi all'incrocio tra il Naviglio
proveniente da Milano ed il fiume Ticino. Alla luce delle potenzialità di connesione dell'area con altre di vario interesse,
abbiamo deciso di riutilizzare l'edificio per creare una stretta connesione tra persone, città e paesaggio. Abbiamo
analizzato in un primo momento il sistema produttivo delle regioni limitrofe,
partendo dall'esempio della Certosa di Pavia nella quale la comunità di
monaci studiava e coltivava il territorio formando una realtà economicamente
attiva ed indipendente. Utilizzando
come catalizzatore dell'intervento il prossimo EXPO, previsto a Milano nel
2015 a tema “feed the planet”,
si prevede di inserire l'Idroscalo in una rete di edifici ed eventi sparsi
tra Pavia e Milano con il tema comune di un utilizzo più sostenibile e
consapevole delle risorse alimentari locali. Viene proposto di dare nuova
vita all'area circostante il fiume, inserendo lungo il suo corso in
corrispondenza del centro cittadino una serie di piattaforme sulle quali sia
possibile praticare attività all'aria aperta. In questo modo si cerca di
trasformare l'area di intervento da marginale a punto nevralgico della vita
cittadina. L'idroscalo
diventerebbe in questo modo uno spazio multifunzionale nel quale scoprire
sapori tipici della zona, avendo la possibilità di cucinarli e gustarli al
momento affiancati da chef professionisti oppure in un più classico e
tradizionale ristorante al piano superiore dell'edificio. Per quanto riguarda
l'intervento architettonico, si vuole celebrare le forme originarie della
struttura sia nei suoi aspetti interni che esterni; a questo proposito, il
progetto prevede il mantenimento dell'edificio attuale e l'inserimento
all'interno di un semplice e lineare volume in acciaio. Viene ricreata così
un'organizzazione dello spazio su due livelli simile nel linguaggio a quella
già presente, che permette al ristorante di avere un'area più privata al
piano superiore e ai visitatori di avere una vista sul fiume attraverso le
originarie finestre. Per permettere alle persone di sperimentare totalmente
la vista e sentirsi parte del paesaggio 6 piattaforme verranno costruite
seguendo l'angolazione della rampa esistente, organizzate su diversi livelli
che terminano con una terrazza. |
