From ECOC 2010, Turin:

The best way to reach Pavia from Turin is to use the train. Here some departures timetable on Thursday afternoon:

Turin Porta Nuova (dep. at 3.50 pm), change train in Vercelli, arrival in Pavia at 6.14 pm.

Turin Porta Nuova (dep. at 4.05 pm), change train in Alessandria, arrival in Pavia at 6.31 pm.

Turin Porta Nuova (dep. at 4.40 pm), change train in Milano Porta Garibaldi, arrival in Pavia at 6.50 pm.

Turin Porta Nuova (dep. at 6 pm), change train in Milano Centrale, arrival in Pavia at 7.51 pm.

Turin Porta Nuova (dep. at 7 pm), change train in Milano Centrale, arrival in Pavia at 8.57 pm.

Turin Porta Nuova (dep. at 9.05 pm), change train in Voghera, arrival in Pavia at 11.13 pm.

By plane:

The nearest airports are: Milano Linate ( LIN, km 54) and Milano Malpensa (MPX,km 85), but you can also land at the Airport of Orio al Serio, Bergamo (BGY,km 97). MXP is served by EasyJet, BGY is served by Ryanair. Please note that EasyJet departs from MXP Terminal 2 (allow 20 minutes to transfer from/to Terminal 1 when travelling by train, and 10 minutes by bus). 

From the Linate Airport there is a not-so-frequent daily bus service run by Migliavacca Company that leaves from Platform #6 and stops at Pavia Railway Station. Price: 13 € one-way (ticket to be purchased on-board). Travel time: 45-65 minutes. Depature times – from Linate: 9:00 11:50 14:00 17:00 20:30 – from Pavia: 5:00 7:10 10:10 13:00 15:10 18:10 (Complete timetable).

Alternatively, take a taxi to Milano Lambrate Railway Station (12 €) or Milano Centrale (20 €) Railway Station, than follow “by train” instructions.

A trip by taxi from Linate to Pavia can cost around 50-70 €, and takes 35-60 minutes.

 

From Malpensa Airport there are daily and frequent bus services to Milano Centrale Railway Station. Price: 8-11 € one-way (ticket to be purchased on-board). Travel time: 50-60 minutes. Than follow “by train” instructions.
From the Malpensa Airport there is also a train service Malpensa Express, to Milan Cadorna Railway Station (every 30 minutes, travel time 40 minutes). Then take the subway (green line, direction Cologno, here the metro map) to reach Milano Centrale Railway Station, and follow “by train” instructions..

A trip by taxi to Pavia can cost around 90-120€, and takes 60-90 minutes. Please note that getting to Malpensa by car during peak hours can be risky due to slow traffic.

 

From Orio al Serio there are daily and frequent bus services to Milano Centrale Railway Station. Price: 8-10 € one-way (ticket to be purchased on-board). Travel time: 60-70 minutes. Than follow “by train” instructions.

By train:

Pavia is on the Milano-Genova Railway line. The trip from Milano to Pavia takes 25-35 minutes. You can check train timetables and fares here (Milan has many Stations, so please double check that the train of your choice leaves from that station of your interest). There is only one railway station in Pavia. Tickets can be purchased at the station from automatic machines that accept credit and debit cards as well as cash. Any ticket must be stamped using the yellow machines before boarding the train. Please note that each train is generally identified by its final destination and not by its nearest important stop.

Once in Pavia, town centre can be reached on foot (1 km), by Bus #3 (direction: Montebolone, fare 1.10 €, tickets to be purchased in advance from tobacconist's or news stand inside the Station), or by Taxi.  

IMPORTANT NOTE: when moving around Milan subway and railway stations beware of pickpockets that tend to be attracted by foreigners. 

 

By car:

In Pavia many streets are closed to traffic, so it is better to park in the proper parking areas shown on the site "Mobilità del Comune di Pavia" (click on “mappa” at the end of the page)
