Methods for Political Research

6 credits

Teacher responsible: Prof. Pamela Pansardi

The course aims to provide students with the main conceptual and methodological tools of research design (topic selection, hypothesis generation, case selection, measurement issues, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, working with data sets, gathering new sources of data, e.g. textual data).

The course will include the presentation and critical assessment of research cases spanning over the different subfields of political science (i.e., from IR to electoral studies to social movements research) as well as a practical ‘hands-on’ part, in which students will develop basic skills in statistics for political analysis.
