Gaia Varon

Gaia Varon studied flute and composition at the Conservatorio G. Verdi and Civica Scuola di Musica, Milan, and graduated with a thesis on orchestration and drama in Verdi at the DAMS, Bologna, where she is currently doing a PhD in Musicology and musical resources. A qualified journalist, she works as music critic for various newspapers and magazines and is an experienced author and presenter for programmes on radio (RAI Radio3) and television. She also teaches at the Libera Università IULM and Conservatorio G. Verdi, Milan. Her main research interests are 19th century Italian opera  and instrumental music in the classic and Romantic periods, paying particular  attention to how they are reworked in cinema, television and the new media.
