Should I have to contact anybody before moving to Pavia?
Usually we receive all the information about you through your university, so you don’t have to contact us previously. Anyway for any problem you can send us an e-mail, and we’ll answer you as soon as possible.

Where can I find a homestay in Pavia?
Pavia is famous for its student residences. Some of them have more than 400 years.
Sending your application to the Erasmus mobility office, you can ask them for a room in a student dormitory.
If you’d rather stay in an apartement you can contact the student assistence centre (centro di assistenza studenti, via Mazzini:
link), which will provide you a list of homestay opportunity.

How does the university system work in Italy?
Our academic years are usually divided in two semesters. The first one starts between the end of september and the beginning of october. The lecture-time goes till the end of Jannuary. The exams take place in febbruary and finish before the next semester. There’s no Spring-break in Italy.
The second semester begins around the first days of march. Lecture go on till the half of June. The rest of the month and July are dedicated to the exams. August is a free month.
The courses are held just on the 1st or on 2nd semester only. That means: it’ impossible to attend a corse on the 2nd semester, if it had already taken place on the 1st one. It’s anyway possible to give the exams on both the semesters.

What are exact dates for 1st and 2nd semester start and end?

What’s the highest mark I can get? And the lowest?
Our marks are given in thirties. The highest note you can achieve is 30L/30. “L” stays for “lode” = “praise”
The lowest is 18/30. More information about how your marks could be recognisezed in your homecountry, you can find on this page:

If I have any questions, whom should I ask to?
mobilita-internazionale.ingegneria@unipv.it

What if I have to change my Learning Agreement?
You should be firsty sure, that the changing is necessary. Contact both your coordinators in Pavia and in your Homecountry. Don’t wait too long to do that. Remember: In some courses in our university is compulsory following the lectures. You can’t start a course in the middle of the semester.

When should the exams take place?
That’s the lecture and exams calendar for the A.Y: 2013/2014: PDF

Do I need a very high level of Italian in order to follow the courses?
Of course we don’t require a very high level of spoken and written Italian. It’s anyway better to be able to have an idea of what the people are are saying. The University of Pavia organizes Italian courses during the semester:
